Two modern Norwegian hurtigruten ships, motor vessels Richard With (south bound) and Nordlys (northbound), at Trondheim, June 2006 - the world famous hurtigruten service between Bergen and Kirknes at the North Cape has been running for over a century.
The vessels have the same hull colours but different funnel liveries. The Richard With (nearest) has the traditional funnel colours of the Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibselskab (the Ofoten & Vesteralen Steamship Company). This company resulted from the merger in 1988 of Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (founded 1881) and Ofotens Dampskipsselskap (founded 1936) The Nordlys bears the red, white and black funnel livery of Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskap (founded in 1866). These two old companies are now merged (since 1st March 2006) as the Hurtigruten Group ASA.
