The buskers of Amsterdam's Leidesplein are justly recognised as among the world's greatest street theatre. They perform an almost limitless variety of entertainment from break dancing to classical to Amsterdam visitors from around the globe. This gentleman is one of my personal favourites and I have been pleased to take in one of this performances on numerous occasions, summer and winter, stretching back over a number of years.. In delivering his eclectic repertoire he uses not just his voice and the double base; his right foot is used to create an amazingly rich percussion from the battered old wooden box on which he stands and this is further enhanced by the red tambourine attached to his left boot. On a couple of occasions I have seen him arrive and depart on his bicycle with the large musical instrument and other accoutraments strapped to his back.
