Model of the first Lake Lucerne train ferry DGV1
The first train ferry in Switzerland appeared on Bodensee (Lake Constance) in 1869. Train ferries continued on this huge lake, between Romanshorn and Friedrichshafen until 1976.
Between 1873 and 1893 a train ferry on Lake Thun linked an isolated railway near Interlaken with the main line to Bern at Thun
DGV1 and other train ferries appeared on Lakes Lucerne and Como in 1890, lasting until the construction of the railway along the side of Lake Thun.
There was a train ferry on Lake Zurich between 1885 and 1894 linking a factory to the main line.
