Laid off at the buoy at Ardgour was the spare ferry Maid of Glencoul. She had been built by McCrindle Shipbuilding at Ardrossan for the service acrss Kylesku in the far north west of the Scottish mainland. When replaced by a bridge at Kylesku, Maid of Glencoul was transferred to Corran where she acted as relief to the older but larger ferry Rosehaugh. The latter vessel had also come to Corran 'secondhand' as she had been built originally to serve on the crossing from Inverness to the Black Isle. She had been displaced from there by the opening of the Kessock Bridge. Rosehaugh was replaced at Ardgour by the new Corran.
