Skipping past Troon (which we will visit on the return voyage), the next port of call was Ardrossan Harbour and here we see the paddler making her approach on a fine clear day. Horse Island and its ancient light tower are in the immediate background. To the left in the background is the northernmost part of Arran, roughly from Sannox up past the measured 'mile' to the Cock of Arran. To the right, across the wide Bute Sound are the multiple humps of the southern backbone of the Isle of Bute. Between the two, in the far distance, are the hills of North Kintyre.
