Mounts Bay launch day, 9th April 2004
Mounts Bay off Govan with the giant cantilever crane at the former Barclay Curle North British Diesel Engine Works at Whiteinch in the background. The North British works built some of the first marine diesel engines in the UK, firstly under licence from Burmeister & Wain and later under licence from Sulzer Brothers of Winterthur, Switzerland. The Arrol-built crane was used to lift the machinery into the engineroom of new ships berthed at the appropriately named Diesel Wharf. Engine manufacture at Whiteinch ceased in the 1970s after which the works were used to manufacture launchers for the Royal Navy's Harpoon missile system.
